Consistently defeating adversity, sometimes extreme, and rising to the top of all her professional endeavors mark Dr. Cheri Hollstrom’s Chiropractic career. She now helps others overcome their health problems with medical and scientific precision and a life-long involvement and expertise in natural and whole wellness.
A look at her credentials, degrees, and honors only tells part of the story. Her entire family and background is steeped in practical application of medical knowledge. Dr. Cheri’s father was a chiropractor and a naturopath, and all three of her siblings and two of their spouses are chiropractors (including hers – (Dr. Dale). Her brothers have two children who are also chiropractors.
She grew up in northern Michigan in an active, naturally healthy home by the Mackinaw Bridge. Cheri had an active outdoor childhood, enjoying skiing, skating, and camping with her family. Her father was chiropractor and naturopath, heavily trained in pharmacology with an emphasis in vitamins, minerals, nutraceuticals. Cheri learned at a young age about how these substances very specifically and powerfully amplify the functions in the body. This knowledge propelled her later into a career of immunochemistry, acupuncture, and hormone therapy to advance wellness.
Tragedy struck in 1967 when both parents were killed in a plane crash. All four children became wards of the court and were sent to separate homes. But even tragic loss couldn’t stop the family tradition of chiropractic health care. Cheri and all her siblings put themselves through college and professional chiropractic school, and are now part of three generations of chiropractors.
Dr. Cheri’s education is decidedly scientific, medical, and conservative. She completed her BS degree in biology and chemistry at Central Michigan University. She acquired more degrees in medical technology, a BS in Human Anatomy and Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) at National University of Health Sciences in Chicago. She earned a teaching scholarship while at National University, taught laboratory diagnosis, maintaining a high level grade point average (A).
After working her way through school, Cheri packed all her belongings in her sister-in-law’s jeep and moved to Colorado the day after graduation in August of 1980. For the next 20 years she practiced in Denver. While on a vacation in Hawaii she started developing painful joints in her hands, and a year later she was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. At that time, Cheri was unable to perform the daily activities of showering, dressing or turning over in bed. Her rheumatologist recommended she take time off from work and away from stress to help slow down the progression of the disease. She decided to sell her practice and travel with her husband, Dr. Dale Baird.
In their travels, Dr. Cheri and Dr. Dale spent many hours attending medical symposia in Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine, and Nutritional Medicine. Using this new found knowledge, Dr. Cheri’s health status went from basically disabled to working out, riding a recumbent bicycle and returning to work on a part time basis. In 2011 she and Dr. Dale reopened a practice to share their knowledge acquired over the last 11 years. Together they have over 50 years of accumulated expertise with their clients. Using the most current technology, they find deficiencies or surpluses of the body’s natural substances, restore the balance to normal, and allow healing to occur.
Dr. Cheri now enjoys riding a recumbent trike in the mountains. She also enjoys hiking and their grandchildren, and has bellydance on her wish list of things to learn.
